Hi. I’m Dawn. Welcome to my kitchen where I attempt to make everything from scratch! Avoiding pre-made processed food from a package, box or can tastes better, is often healthier and it unleashes my creativity. It is a challenging journey to be sure. Keeping the whole family satisfied keeps me on my toes.
When Daughter was young I took a Wilton cake decorating class from a local craft store and really enjoyed making delicious desserts. This ‘from scratch’ dessert skill helps me feel more confident in the treats we eat. The Boy has the sweetest tooth of anyone I know and he turns into a different person when a sugary treat is in his sight. I feel better when I provide the special occasion treat, rather when he gets store-bought candy or other baked goods.
To balance out these sweet treats, I’ve been learning more about vegetables. This naturally led me toward gardening, which I find both challenging and rewarding. I was also trained as a personal trainer, Pilates instructor and group fitness instructor so nutrition and fitness are constantly on my mind.
On this blog, you will find my favorite recipes for desserts, breads, dinners and snacks, made from scratch. You will find cooking and baking tutorials, and fitness and gardening tips. I began this collection of information is for my children, so they will be able to create their favorite meals and desserts on their own and will remember the good times we shared in the kitchen. I also hope this blog helps inspire my readers to make their meals from scratch and to try new ingredients and new techniques along the way.
